DESIGN OF NEW ACTIVE INGREDIENTS ADDRESSING CELL RECEPTORS BY GREEN CHEMISTRY

TThe IUPHAR database describes at least 600major receptors that have been discovered after the
sequencing of human genome. Cell receptors are the eyes and ears of the simplest subunit of our
body: our cells. Reacting to an amazing variety of molecules such as hormones, ions, sugars, peptides,
cytokines, lipids or exogenous chemicals. Cell receptors drive a wide diversity of signals within and
between the cells. They also direct the flow of chemical information in our body.

Initially investigated for pharmaceutical applications, these cellular gatekeepers are now under
evaluation in new fields of applications including skin care. This ongoing research has inspired the
design of two new active molecules utilizing green chemistry: (1) an activated sugar acting on the
hyaluronan / CD44 receptor expression, and (2) a cosmetic-compatible derivative of the most powerful
compound from green tea, known to regulate fat tissue receptors.

These two examples will show how novel active ingredients can be sustainably generated for skin care
using green chemistry, which is a beacon of hope in a world where concerns for the environment and
consumer health and safety are paramount.

Bio:
Dof Applied Sciences. He completed a Ph.D. in molecular biology and
protein engineering at the University of Toulouse.

He then directly participated in the creation of Proteus, a biotechnology
company focused on extremophile microorganisms. He developed the key
technology platforms for enzymes screening and protein ‘directed
evolution’, and moved to the position of VP of Chief Scientific Officer.

Having more than 15 years of industrial experience in biocatalysis and green chemistry for
pharmaceutical and personal care applications, Dr. Lefevre joined LibraGen in 2005 as Chief Scientific
Officer to coordinate R&D and innovation activities. He contributed to the development and marketing
of the first innovative active cosmetic ingredients of the company.

Since the addition of LibraGen to the conglomerate of Induchem Companies, he has been leading the
Scientific and Technical marketing activities at Induchem Companies.

Dr. Lefevre is a regular guest speaker at Universities and Engineering. Schools. He is the author of
reference scientific papers, book chapters, and over 20 patents, granted in the US and Europe.helps develop new or modified in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo testing methodologies including genomic testing such as human and yeast microarray, and protein assays to establish functional cutaneous pathways for product performance.  He is the author of multiple patents on hair and skin care actives and has authored numerous papers on these topics as well.  He is the co-editor of the book “Principals of Polymer Science and Technology in Cosmetics and Personal Care” published by Francis Taylor Publishing.
